How to change the project settings used when starting a new project

Question

Please tell me how to change the default settings of the project settings used when starting a new project.

Answer

Change the "guest default settings" in "Presets" in [File]-[Project settings].

There are mainly three methods.

  • How to set it in "Project Settings" and set it as default [version 18.0 or later]
  • How to copy created presets to default
  • How to change the default settings (guest default settings)

The differences between the default presets that can be checked in the presets are as follows.

  • Current Project:
Settings for the project you are currently using. "Guest default settings" will be copied at the timing of starting a new project.
  • System Configuration:
DaVinci Resolve standard settings. Cannot be changed. It is used to restore the settings in the event of trouble.
  • guest default settings: Default settings
to use when starting a project. It can be changed. If not changed, the settings are the same as "System Configuration".

How to set it in "Project Settings" and set it as default [version 18.0 or later]

Set the contents set in "Project settings" to "guest default settings". This function is supported in version 18.0 or later.

Open [File]-[Project Settings]
(In the example, you can see that "guest default setting" is "1920×1080".)

Set in "Master Settings" - "Path Mapping"

Select "..." in the upper right

(In the example, the timeline resolution is changed to "3840 x 2160".)

"Set current settings as default preset"

Select <Update>

(If you select "Preset", you can see that "guest default setting" has been changed to "3840×2160".)

How to copy created presets to default

The explanation assumes that you have created a preset for the project settings you want to use. Please refer to the following article for how to create a preset.

Right-click the preset you want to use and select <Set User Defaults and Save>.

"Width" and "Height" of the guest default settings have not been updated, but this is OK.

I checked in the Windows environment, but even if I press "Save as user default settings" and the resolution of "guest default settings" changes, the display of the resolution displayed in the "Presets" list does not change immediately. "Load", but it will change soon. . .

Once you quit DaVinci Resolve and start it again to check, you can see that the "guest default settings" have changed.

It seems to be using the name "guest default settings" since it was carried over from previous versions of DaVinci Resolve that supported multi-user. At first glance, I don't understand that "Save as user default settings" changes "guest default settings"

How to change the default settings (guest default settings)

You can also change the "guest default settings" by selecting "guest default settings".

Open [File]-[Project Settings]

Select "guest default settings" in "Presets"

With "Guest Default Settings" selected in "Presets", change the settings in "Master Settings" - "Fairlight" (for example, change the timeline resolution of the timeline format to "1280 x 720 HD 720P
" doing.)

Select "Presets" and select <Save> with "guest default settings" selected
