How to recover from a project backup of the automatic backup function

Question

Please tell me how to restore from the backup created by the project backup of the automatic backup function.

Answer

Please refer to the following article for the automatic backup method.

To restore, first open the project manager and confirm that there is a project to be restored. The recovery method differs depending on the situation. The Project Manager is a dialog that appears when DaVinci Resolve is started, allowing you to select a project to use. If you have already started DaVinci Resolve, you can also open it by clicking the house icon at the bottom right of the screen.

  • When there is a project to be restored on the project manager
  • When there is no project to be restored on the project manager

When there is a project to be restored on the project manager

On the project manager, right-click on the project to be restored and select "Project backup"

Select the backup to restore and <Load>

Manage the project to be restored as a separate project. with a proper project name

In this way, it can be restored as a separate project.

When there is no project to be restored on the project manager

Right click on Project Manager and select "Other Project Backup"

Select the project to be restored from the <load> list,
which is displayed as "(project name).(date and time)". Narrow your search by name and modification date.

Manage the project to be restored as a separate project. with a proper project name

The project will be restored.

If this method doesn't work for you, there is still a way around it.

The file created by Project Backup is actually a copy of the project's database information. Try to recover by manually copying this copy to a location where it can be read as a DaVinci Resolve database.

Checking the save destination of the backup created by saving the project

[DaVinci Resolve] - [Preferences] -> [User] tab -> [Save & load project] -> [Save settings] -> [Project backup destination]

Determine which file is the relevant one based on the modification date and time.

Checking the database storage location to restore to

Click the icon to the left of "Project" in the upper left of the Project Manager

Right-click the database you are using from disk (Local Database by default) and select "Open file location"

From the opened explorer or finder, go down to Resolve Projects\Users\guest\Projects.

Create a folder with an appropriate name to use as the project name and open the folder

Copy the backup file confirmed in "Checking the save destination" to the created folder

Rename the file to "Project.db"

If DaVinci Resolve is running, exit it once and start it

You should be able to restore the project to the top level of Project Manager.
